Ours to Destroy sounds from the title like a bone-crushing punk band, but is
full of surprises. Like Beck meets Polyphonic Spree with Nirvana overtones and
They Might Be Giants wit and quirkiness. You cannot listen to this album without
feeling like you have been waiting for it all your life. Hailing from Canada,
the duo layers poignant melodies onto spiky beats. Each track is a journey of
twists and turns.
Tr#1: Checkmate - Lou Reed vocals meet Polyphonic Spree and Pilotdrift in
a hard driving rocker
Tr#2: Two Thousand Sunsets - Bright Eyes meet Lou Reed at sunset and has
a beer with Bob Dylan singing Beck, (must be a Beck's beer)
Tr#4: Skipping Rope of Daisies - The kind of song you hear once and
immediately know you want it to be a part of the landscape of your life. Or you
want a life that it would be the soundtrack of. A quirky swirly layered siren,
gorgeous indescribable vocal harmonies, both sweet and rich and light as fresh
air and sunshine. Some Grateful Dead in the harmonies with Mick Jagger skipping
rope with the Magic Numbers, like The Little Ones, a vacation from the world
into the world you want to live in.
Tr#8: Exorcising Demons & #15 Happy Now adds in some Nirvana muscle power
into the vocals
Tr#10: Prairies: Sun dancing on grass, Grateful Dead harmonies, sweet
guitar pickin like a breeze ruffling through the grass.
