Categorizing a genre is something of unimportance when really
enjoying the music of a band, but in the case of Kovak, I think it is important
to express the feel and mood the band inspires. A mood that most people venture
to shows to experience and be a part of! To take part in a movement and energy
that their synthetic textures offer to the bodies of their listeners.
Kovak, the rising quintet of England, explodes through speakers with their
Dance-Rock rhythms, helping to define a relatively new category of music which
they share with bands like Goldfrapp and Franz Ferdinand. Bands that offer not
only songs that ring their hypnotic repetitions throughout your day, but the
actual rhythm and movement of the songs force one to move in a very tribal, very
exotic motion, leaving room to interpret movement from the music, or in other
words, DANCING.
With the combination of Kovak’s solidified instrumentation of low bass grooves,
danceable rhythm, and Abby's wonderfully toned voice, the band offers a very
tangible and accessible feel. The songs (featured on
http://www.myspace.com/kovakuk)
are a slew of catchy rhythms that are bound to make way for fan's demanding need
to move their body to the beat. Kovak, they will be the next best investment for
clubs all around, as they will be the key draw for drink sales and late nights.
Their song titles read like the play-by-play sequence of a night of debauchery
at Club Kovak, their very own club night in Brighton:
I Love the Dance Floor - Very strong
introduction showcasing their ability to produce their catchy key board hooks
and vintage guitar tone.
Never Find Love in a Nightclub - Again, a
very catchy hook, both for the verses and chorus, layered wonderfully with the
presentable and attractive female vocals.
Rockstar - The personal favorite, with the
added layer of the guitarist back up vocals making for a more diverse selection
of songs
Sexsuperqueen - Laid back while still
retaining a hard rock feel, Sexsuperqueen holds the most retro vintage rock vibe
of the four tracks.
